Butterfly Pavillion

Jackson holds Rosie the Tarantula--he's much braver than I!

These two look like cartoon mice to me.

I finally caught one of the blue-winged butterflies open--look on the sign.

Yes, this butterfly is really as big as it looks (bigger than my hand!).

My father-in-law, Bill, and his fiancee' Chris chose the Butterfly Pavillion as the site for their wedding. We went up a little early for their rehearsal to get a tour, since we'd never been. Jackson had a great time, running from exhibit to exhibit. There were lots more than just butterflies (see top picture!), including many bugs I don't like to think about. It was chilly outside when we went, but once inside, it was rainforest-humid, reminding us of Louisiana. I thought it was neat that, when you left the atrium where the butterflies live, you had to go through one set of doors into this super blast of air, to make sure no butterflies are trying to sneak out on you. Then you could exit through the next set of doors.
