St. John's

Jackson rings the bell at St. John's with Jimbo Roland

"Do 'gain!"

Every 3rd Sunday there is a 7:30 am service at this little country church called St. John's, and our family takes care of it in many ways. My grandfather cuts the grass and trims the bushes, my mother washes the Communion linens, and my grandmother and/or mother set up the altar on Saturday. The tradition now is for everyone to meet back at my grandparents' house for breakfast, read the paper, etc. until lunchtime. It is a lovely sort of hanging around day, and ample repayment for getting up for church so early.

There is an old iron bell outside that sometimes is rung for services (as long as the wasps' nests are gone!). Jackson spied it on Sunday, and Jimbo Roland, a family friend, was nice enough to lift him up to ring it. He had to do it twice, and was begging for a third go as we left.
